In today’s digital age, we can’t live without our devices, whether it’s our smartphones, smartwatches, laptops or headphones. But should you bring your technology with you when you rejuvenate in the sauna? Let’s take a closer look at the key considerations for using electronic devices in an infrared sauna.
Can you take your phone to a sauna?
Every smartphone, whether Android or iPhone, operates within a specific temperature range. High temperatures can cause your smartphone to shut down, overheat, or even cause lasting electronic damage. Such exposure may void your warranty, so it’s best to check with the manufacturer beforehand.
While you may be tempted to snap a quick selfie or catch up on a show, the real question is, should you? While infrared saunas have lower temperatures and lower humidity (compared to traditional saunas), which may seem safer for your phone, the accumulated heat, especially during extended infrared sauna sessions, can be harmful to electronic devices.
What about other electronics?
- Using a laptop in an infrared sauna: Devices heat up during use, especially when playing videos or music. This heat combined with the heat of the sauna can cause damage. Therefore, we advocate using no devices to truly maximize the relaxing benefits of a sauna.
- Using a smartwatch in an infrared sauna: Like phones, smartwatches are sensitive to extreme conditions. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures may shorten battery life or cause internal damage.
- Using earphones or headphones in an infrared sauna: Although infrared saunas are dry, sweat can penetrate earbuds and cause damage. In addition, the heat can affect the battery life and performance of wireless versions.
Enhance your sauna experience
Rather than relying on external equipment, why not fully immerse yourself in the sauna experience? Here are some suggestions:
- Use soothing essential oils like lavender for aromatherapy.
- Experience the magical effects of color therapy. For example, red light can regulate your circadian rhythm and promote melatonin production.
- Our saunas are equipped with Bluetooth sound systems. Before entering the sauna, set a soothing playlist or an inspiring podcast (using equipment outside the sauna) to ensure you are immersed in tranquility.
If you decide to bring your phone into the sauna, here are some ways it can enhance your experience:
- Stay connected: Your phone keeps you connected to your loved ones. Sauna time is much more enjoyable when you are with friends, whether in person or virtually.
- Entertainment: Use your phone to play music, stream or podcasts. As mentioned above, our saunas are equipped with Bluetooth sound systems.
- Work in peace: Take advantage of the ambiance to catch up on work. But remember that after about 20 minutes, the heat may affect your equipment.
- Time your session: Your phone can help you keep track of the length of your session, which is especially useful if you combine it with a workout or stretching routine.
- Track your progress: Use a wearable device to monitor your heart rate and body temperature to tailor your sauna session to achieve the desired results, whether it’s weight loss or muscle recovery.
However, if your phone starts to overheat, be sure to remove it from the sauna immediately, as continued exposure may damage its components. Consider stopping using your phone periodically during your sauna session to allow your device to cool down.
